Description
The Hutchinson Blackbird is the fastest tire ever created by the French brand. Its rolling resistance has been improved by 10% over the previous generation Fusion 5, but with a class-leading increased life of over 400 km of real-world driving. Hutchinson's new "SwiftEasy" casing design is at the heart of the reduction in rolling resistance. This new construction sees the tire casing wrapped around the bead and then bonded directly to a central polyamide puncture-protection strip, instead of the usual process of overlapping these layers. The SwiftEasy carcass provides a much more flexible point of contact with the road, significantly improving both rolling resistance and comfort while reducing weight thanks to the use of just two layers of 127TPI carcass.
- A new, faster component
The result is an ultra-fast, comfortable and lightweight tire, the 28mm Blackbird weighing in at 290g. Another technology launched on the Blackbird is "MachTread 3.0", the fastest and most efficient tread compound ever developed by Hutchinson. The compound is an all-new formulation with incredibly low rolling resistance and high rebound, giving a 25% increase in energy return when in contact with the road.
MachTread 3.0 is also 10% harder than the previous 11Storm compound, meaning the tire has better resistance to tearing if cut by road debris, and has an impressive lifespan of over 4,000 km. These improvements come while maintaining the same high levels of grip as Hutchinson's previous generation of performance road tires.
- More aggressive cornering
The tire has been specially designed around modern, wider rims, with a running surface 15% wider than the previous generation of tires. This, combined with the more flexible SwiftEasy carcass, means that the tire's contact area with the road is wider rather than longer, enabling aggressive cornering and reduced rolling resistance.
The tire is available in Black and Tan Wall colors in a range of three sizes, 26 mm, 28 mm and 30 mm, weighing 275 g, 290 g and 310 g respectively. The 28 and 30 mm versions are compatible without hooks.
