Description
The Hutchinson Blackbird is the fastest tyre ever created by the French brand. Its rolling resistance has been improved by 10% compared to the previous generation Fusion 5, but with a class-leading increased life of over 400km of real-world driving. Hutchinson's new ‘SwiftEasy’ casing design is at the heart of the reduction in rolling resistance. This new construction sees the tyre casing wrapped around the bead and then bonded directly to a central polyamide puncture protection strip, rather than the usual process of overlapping these layers. The SwiftEasy casing provides a much more flexible point of contact with the road, significantly improving both rolling resistance and comfort while reducing weight by using just two layers of 127TPI casing.
- A new, faster component
The result is an ultra-fast, comfortable and lightweight tyre, with the 28mm Blackbird weighing in at 290g. Another technology launched on the Blackbird is ‘MachTread 3.0’, the fastest and most efficient tread compound ever developed by Hutchinson. The compound is an all-new formulation with incredibly low rolling resistance and high rebound that gives a 25% increase in energy return when it comes into contact with the road.
MachTread 3.0 is also 10% harder than the previous 11Storm compound, which means the tyre has better resistance to tearing if cut by road debris and has an impressive lifespan of over 4,000km. These improvements come while maintaining the same high levels of grip as Hutchinson's previous generation of performance road tyres.
- More aggressive cornering
The tyre has been specially designed around modern, wider rims, with a tread area 15% wider than the previous generation of tyres. This, combined with the more flexible SwiftEasy carcass, means that the tyre's contact patch with the road is wider rather than longer, allowing for aggressive cornering and reduced rolling resistance.
The tyre is available in Black and Tan Wall in a range of three sizes, 26mm, 28mm and 30mm, weighing 275g, 290g and 310g respectively. The 28mm and 30mm versions are compatible without hooks.
