The V-Brake is the most commonly used cable brake on mountain bikes, mountain bikes and city bikes. It is economical, requires little maintenance, and the most advanced models mounted on sealed bearings can easily compete with mechanical disc brakes. Their main disadvantages compared to disc brakes are the wear of the rim after a high mileage and the incompatibility with a sidewall of the rim. On the other hand, they are lighter than disc brakes and that's why they were still used by some professional cross country racers a few years ago.
